FAQs
Do I need to get my school /college involved to take part?

For the event on 16 October you can enter a team through your school / college or without their involvement.

How do I find team members?
We do accept teams of one for the race on 16th October so you can go solo! However, we expect most teams to have more team members to help with the science / maths test and also so that they have a second driver.

What race experience do I need?
The expectation is that most drivers will have raced karts before, but previous experience is not essential.

What is STEM?
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The test for the race on 16 October will be more science / maths based and related to racing.

How difficult will the test be?
The test will have easier and more difficult questions. A team which has one or two team team members from higher year groups should be better placed for the more difficult questions.

Who will set the test?
The test will be drawn up by a STEM ambassador.

Can I get help for the science / maths test?
The main function of the test is to incentivise learning. We fully expect teams to use all the resources at hand (Google, science teachers) to help in the test.

Can I race without doing the science / maths test?
You can, but you will start at the back of the grid, which might not be a problem if you are a super fast driver.

How does qualifying for the race work?
Each team will score points for their science / maths test. Based on these scores your team will either start further towards the front of the grid or towards the back.

How many drivers are we allowed per team?

You are allowed a maximum of 2 drivers. It is also possible to only have 1 driver. Each team has to perform one pit stop.

Do I need to bring anything to race?
No, all kit will be provided by Daytona.

What karts do you use for racing?

We use NT-35 karts which are part of the fleet at Daytona Milton Keynes. They have a top speed of 50 mph.

Is it an indoor circuit?
We will be using the international circuit at Daytona Milton Keynes which is outdoors
